2010 Tax Returns – Claim bigger tax returns
Most of people are always thinking, how they can claim bigger tax returns with their taxes. Doing the calculations, looking for tax credits and deductions are too overwhelming. Here are some overlooked tax credits and deductions that can save you this season:
• Forgiveness of Mortgage – Homeowners who have debt in mortgage can partly or entirely forgiven and enable to claim tax relief by using Form 982. However, debt forgiveness was also considered as taxable income.
• Tax Credits for Child – With Child Tax Credit, you can claim $1,000 per children 17 years old and below. By using Child and Dependent Care Credit you are allowed to claim a credit of 35 percent of child care or expenses for dependent care. For one child and dependent the limits are set to $3,000 while for two or more the limits are set to $6,000.
• Education – According to The American Opportunity Tax Credit, you are allowed to claim at least $2,500 credit per student, per year for four years, based on the tuition fees cost.
• Claim your moving expenses – If you move for a new job, you are only allowed to claim the expenses if you moved 50 miles or more from your previous job. Use Form 3903 to calculate the expenses and deduct them to Form 1040 as an adjusted income. Include all the expenses like, printing of resume, looking for headhunters, transportation fees, if you use your own vehicle include the gas, and lodging - if it is out of town. Just make sure you had all the receipts for the expenses.
• Medical Expenses – In case you spend 7.5 percent or more of your adjusted gross income for medical expenses, like health insurance, doctors prescriptions, any out pocket expenses and for medical facilities, the entire amount that exceeds can deduct by itemizing.
• Mortgage credit interest – For homeowners who had low incomes. If you received a certification from mortgage credit, you are eligible for Mortgage Interest Credit.
