Tax Returns 2010 – Changes that will help you for 2010 taxes

Today, finding of ways how you can file for 2010 tax returns is easy. Just follow these guidelines regarding 7 changes in tax laws.

•    Filing Timetable – When tax season comes, taxpayers are always looking for tax changes instead of the timing of laws. Last December 17, the congress finalizes the legislation that applies for this year’s tax filing. And the Internal Revenue Service is catching-up to revise some forms and to re-program their computer.

It means if you’re a taxpayer who itemize some deductions on your Schedule A or wants to claim tuition, fees and other educator expense deductions directly from Form 1040 or 1040A, the IRS cannot process your tax returns until Valentine’s Day.

•    Include your Adoption Credit – The Health Care Reform Laws offers special tax breaks for families who adopt children last year. For 2010 tax return, the highest adoption credit was increased to $13,170. This increased credit was applied to all adopted children, not only for the special needs of children and this credit is also refundable.

•    Max out of Itemized Deductions – Higher income earners always keep their itemized deductions and other personal exemptions that were claimed on 2010 income tax returns. If ever your adjusted gross income exceeds to a certain amount, you must reduce this tax break amount.

•    Expanded homebuyer credit – This tax credit was first appeared last 2008 and extended again for 2010 tax return. It’s a tax credit where the amount can directly subtract to any taxes you owe as long as you have written and binding contract in place by April 30, 2010, and under on your primary residency purchased by September 30, 2010.

•    Roth conversion taxes – Taxpayers regardless to their income, can now convert traditional IRA into Roth IRAs. For 2010, account holders can decide to cancel the payment of taxes on their retirement accounts.

The filing position was set to default; you may count half in any produced income by the IRA conversion for 2011 tax year and other half for 2012 and then pay the amount of taxes with their respective tax filing.
